Capcom vs. SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting 2001 is a 2D fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The game was released for PlayStation 2 in Japan on September 13, 2001. It is the sequel to Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 and features a crossover roster from Capcom and SNK fighting franchises.
Story & Concept
The game presents a large international martial arts tournament where fighters from both companies compete. Characters from series such as Street Fighter, The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, and Samurai Shodown appear together in a crossover battle. The story mainly serves as a setting for the competition, allowing many famous fighters to face each other.
Gameplay & Mechanics
Capcom vs. SNK 2 focuses on fast-paced 2D fighting with team battles. Players create a team of up to three characters, assigning a ratio value that determines their strength and health. A single fighter can have a higher ratio, while larger teams divide that power between members.
One of the game’s defining mechanics is the Groove system. Before each match, players choose one of six fighting styles inspired by classic Capcom and SNK mechanics. These styles change the super meter, defensive options, and movement abilities. The six grooves are:
-
C-Groove – Super combo system similar to Street Fighter Alpha
-
A-Groove – Custom combo system
-
P-Groove – Parry-based defensive style
-
S-Groove – Charge and MAX activation mechanics
-
N-Groove – Flexible style with stored power
-
K-Groove – Rage system with Just Defense
The game uses the six-button punch and kick system from the Street Fighter series. SNK characters were adapted to this control scheme to maintain balanced gameplay.
Modes & Features
The PS2 version includes several modes such as Arcade Mode, VS Mode, Survival Mode, Training Mode, Replay Mode, and Color Edit Mode. Players can practice combos, customize character colors, and replay recorded matches.
