Pokémon Green is one of the original games that started the Pokémon franchise. Game Freak developed the title, and Nintendo published it for the Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996. It launched together with Pokémon Red and introduced players to the first generation of Pokémon.

The adventure takes place in the Kanto region. Players begin their journey as a young trainer from Pallet Town. At the start of the game, Professor Oak offers three starter Pokémon. Players can choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. This choice shapes the early stages of the adventure.

Explore the Kanto Region

Players travel across cities, caves, forests, and routes throughout Kanto. During the journey, they capture wild Pokémon and train them for battle. They also challenge Gym Leaders in different cities. Each victory grants a Gym Badge and brings the player closer to the Pokémon League.

The main goal is to become the Pokémon Champion. To achieve this, players must defeat the Elite Four and the final Champion battle. At the same time, many players aim to complete the Pokédex. The original Pokédex includes 151 Pokémon to discover and capture.

Battles, Trading, and Team Rocket

Pokémon Green introduced the Link Cable feature on the Game Boy. This system allowed players to battle or trade Pokémon with friends. Some Pokémon appear only in specific versions. Therefore, trading becomes essential for completing the full Pokédex.

Throughout the adventure, players also face Team Rocket. This criminal organization steals and exploits Pokémon. The player must stop their plans and defeat their leader, Giovanni.

A Historic Japanese Release

Pokémon Green launched only in Japan. Later, Nintendo released Pokémon Blue in Japan with improved graphics and sprites. The international versions of Pokémon Red and Blue used this updated version as their base.

Today, Pokémon Green remains an important part of gaming history. Collectors and retro fans value it as the starting point of the Pokémon phenomenon.
