Sakura Taisen 3: Pari wa Moeteiru ka is a tactical role-playing and adventure game developed by Red Company and Overworks and published by Sega. The game was released in Japan for Dreamcast on March 22, 2001.

It is the third main entry in the Sakura Wars series. The title mixes several genres including tactical RPG battles, visual novel storytelling, and dating simulation mechanics.

The game introduces a new setting and characters while continuing the storyline established in the earlier titles.

Story

The story takes place in Paris during the 1920s.

Ichiro Ogami, a lieutenant from the Imperial Japanese Army, travels to Paris to help train a new unit called the Paris Combat Revue. This group protects the city from supernatural threats while maintaining a public cover as cabaret performers.

The team includes several members such as Erica Fontaine, Glycine Bleumer, Coquelicot, Hanabi Kitaoji, and Lobelia Carlini. Together they pilot mechanical weapons known as Koubu to fight enemies.

As the story progresses, the group faces a mysterious organization called the Phantoms of Paris, which threatens the city with dark magic.

Gameplay

Sakura Taisen 3 combines story segments with tactical combat.

During adventure sections, players explore locations in Paris and interact with characters through the LIPS system (Live & Interactive Picture System). Dialogue choices influence character relationships and can affect later events.

Combat takes place in turn-based tactical battles on fully 3D maps. Units move within a limited range and can perform actions such as attack, defend, heal, or special techniques.

Decisions made during story interactions can increase a character’s motivation, which improves their performance during battles.

Modes and Features

The game is structured into episodic chapters, combining narrative scenes and strategic missions.

Players alternate between daily life activities in Paris and combat missions against supernatural enemies. The adventure segments allow exploration of areas such as Montmartre and the Paris Combat Revue headquarters.

Several minigames are also available during exploration, including arcade-style challenges and casino games like poker and blackjack.

Presentation

Sakura Taisen 3 features anime-style character designs by Kosuke Fujishima and music composed by Kohei Tanaka.

The game uses voice acting and cinematic scenes to present its story. In addition, animated sequences produced by Production I.G appear during key moments.

The Paris setting and theatrical theme give the game a distinctive visual style compared to earlier entries in the series.
