Vampire Night (ヴァンパイアナイト in Japan) is a classic light‑gun rail shooter originally developed by Wow Entertainment and published by Namco. First released in Japanese arcades in 2000, it later arrived on the PlayStation 2 in November 2001, bringing its gothic horror action straight into Japanese living rooms and game collections.

Story & Setting

The game is set in an alternate 2006 France, where a centuries‑old struggle unfolds between the forces of light and darkness. Two vampire hunters, Michel and Albert, represent the light. They arrive in a French village besieged by vampires and grotesque creatures. Along the way, they rescue a young girl named Caroline, who witnessed villagers captured by the vampire threat.

Gameplay & Mechanics

Vampire Night plays like a traditional light‑gun shooter similar to The House of the Dead series. Players use light guns or compatible controllers to shoot oncoming enemies in first‑person perspective. They must aim for enemy weak points while rescuing villagers before they turn into vampires. Players reload by shooting off‑screen, and they lose lives when hit by enemies.

The game spans several themed stages, such as snow, fire, and moonlight areas, each ending in challenging boss encounters. Cooperative play lets two players team up through the PS2 campaign, making it ideal for shared horror‑shooter fun.

Japanese PS2 Features & Legacy

The Japanese PS2 version preserves full Japanese language menus and voice acting. It also includes additional modes like training and adventure modes, offering side quests and item customization for deeper play beyond the arcade feel.

Vampire Night blends fast‑paced shooter action with atmospheric horror themes, making it a unique rail shooter on the PS2 in Japan. Its mix of gothic style, cooperative light‑gun gameplay, and cinematic vampire battles keeps fans returning even years after its release.
